These images are the result of painting from archaeological photos of Maya ruins. Though they initially represented an effort to reach past the colonial logics that produced them, they cannot help but contribute toward the romanticization of sites of Maya ritual practice and cultural production from a position of dislocation. They represent an effort to find my own way into a collective imaginary of Mesoamerica, however constructed.
